Boomers: ‘Tweeners not Seniors

Born between 1946 and 1964 – 25% of the U.S. population - 78 million strong. Roughly eight thousand Baby Boomers turned sixty every day in 2006. This number will grow to more than ten thousand per day as the middle of the Boom reaches that threshold. A 2006 “Dreams Survey” of Boomers revealed this important fact that is relevant to your church: 26.2% listed as a top concern “Finding a community of other people to be with”. That community is not a Senior Adult Game Night. The leading edge boomer population has more in common with the younger trailing edge than with “senior adults.” Reaching and retaining current boomers in the church may well require a realignment of ministries: One for adults ages 55-70 and another for those 71+.

A Yankelovich survey revealed six segments of Boomers within the Boomer Nation. Exploring the differing characteristics of these will enable the church to determine which of these segments, similarities not withstanding, provide the greatest opportunity for our churches to reach and assimilate those Boomers who are potentially most receptive to our efforts.

Teaming for Ministry: Enlisting/Equipping

Disciple making is a team sport – unlike the game of golf. One of the most challenging issues for local churches in the next ten years will be "volunteers in ministry".

While church budgets and purchasing power are often decreasing, the expectations of constituents and prospects about what a church should provide are increasing. Young parents will not settle for the best preschool care minimum wage can buy. The only way most churches will be able to provide ministries that ATTRACT and HOLD people is through an increase in lay volunteers that will allow the church to offer needed ministries.

It's a significant set-back...all the way back to the staff-less 1st century church. Two views of enlistment and their implications are explored. (1) The Institutional view is a process of persuasion – members are enlisted to service the needs of the organization. (2) The Individual View is a process of motivation – around spiritual gifts, interests, abilities, and passion. Provides for the needs of people by people; rather than the people providing for the needs of the organization. Transitioning to the biblical basis of expanding the team roster is explored in this seminar.

Spiritual Gifts Discovery and Deployment

PLACE workshop materials are utilized in this seminar. PLACE is not just another church program. It is a process of self-discovery and service for all Christians. The PLACE workshop is not just another seminar that sends participants home excited with no real practical tools. PLACE equips them with the knowledge, tools and power needed to transform your church.

What makes PLACE different and effective is the step-by-step implementation process and resources. Through the PLACE process, participants discover that God created them with unique Personality, Spiritual Gifts, Abilities, Passions and Experiences. Discovering God’s purpose and plan for their lives helps members find their PLACE of service in the Body of Christ. PLACE is a biblically based and highly effective way of doing church.

Cost of the participant’s workbook varies based upon the quantity ordered. Most churches supplement the reasonable cost of the workbook to encourage participation.
